Minutes of the North Berwick Republican Meeting

April 3, 2008

From 7:00pm to 8:13pm at the North Berwick Community Center

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm.

Members of the committee present: Ryan McCabe, Gregg Drew, and Matt Pomerleau

Invited Guests in attendance: Hon. David Bowles, Rep. Bonnie S. Gould, James Flach(South Berwick), and Burnell Bailey(South Berwick).

Ryan opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance

The committee approved the minutes from the February Caucus with a 3-0 vote in favor of approval.

Everyone in attendance was looking forward to the State Convention in May. The town of North Berwick will be sending 11 delegates and 4 alternates to the convention this year. There was some discussion about what to expect at the convention on both Friday and Saturday. All delegates are encouraged to attend both days if possible. Our town committee will be meeting the Thursday night before the convention and the chairman encouraged all delegates to attend the town meeting on that night, as the convention itinerary will be the focal point. Payment has been made in full to the State Committee for all delegates and it was delivered to them last week.

The committee decided to wait until an official copy of the committee by-laws could be located prior to deciding on establishing a treasurer within the committee.

An announcement was made informing the committee that the town meeting will be held on Saturday, April 5th, and that the elections would go from 8am to 1pm with the budget approval meeting following at 1:30pm. The chairman stressed calling fellow Republicans that we know to make sure they know when and where the voting was taking place as well as the ability to do an absentee ballot at the Town Hall.

There was some discussion on the new committee website, including input and suggestions. South Berwick Chairman Burnell Bailey and Publicity Director James Flach were in attendance to discuss developing a website in South Berwick as well as the upcoming meet the candidates event that will be held in South Berwick on June 7th.

The meet the candidates event in South Berwick will be hosted by South Berwick, North Berwick, and Elliot. Both Charlie Summers and Dean Scontras have agreed to attend and speak with voters. Also attending the event will be the candidates for State Senate and State Representative. This event has drawn a lot of enthusiasm from several people and it should be a wonderful chance for voters to ask questions and get to know their local candidates.

There was lengthy discussion on the effort to establish a York County Young Republicans Club. A MySpace page has been created as well as a chain of emails from various individuals to attempt to generate interest among younger voters/Republicans. It looks as though there will be an official launch date for the club soon, potentially late June or early July.

The following announcements were made:

Next York County Republican Committee Meeting: April 21st, 7pm, Alfred Town Hall (Bring the most guests and win a gift cert. to the Olive Garden)

Next North Berwick Selectmen’s Meeting: April 15th, 6:30pm, Municipal Building Second Floor

Next North Berwick GOP Meeting: May 1st, 7pm, North Berwick Community Center

The meeting adjourned at 8:13pm with several people staying behind to have friendly discussion.
